Short wheelbase 1972 diesel

Hi Guys,
I have just purchased a 1972 diesel with a non exsitint clutch. Not having owned one before and still waiting for a manual in the post what is the best way to get to the clutch?
I have read somewhere that some people have done a conversion tothe gearbox crossmember by cutting it out and plating for bolting it back on. Not sure on that one though,
This box has got the overdrive on it as well and there dont look to be enough room just to pull the box back and get to the clutch plate doesit have to come all the way out to replace?
Any info would be nice to have.
In the bigger picture I am planning to get the clutch repaired and get it up for a MOT to just to see how much it actually requires before I start to spend a lot of cash on better engines and springs and brakes.
By the way this looks a very helpful website for the first time landy owner.

engine out is easier if you have a hoist!

Dont have hoist,
just changed the gearbox on my maverick a month ago with it up on stands and on my back with a trolley jack by myself..

you will be suprised the weight differance between a landy box and a maverick one

If you've never done it before I wouldn't try it without some kind of hoist. I'd recommend and engine crane through the door, but opinions differ on that.
If I rememberrightly (some time since I've done it, thankfully) it's easier to remove the o/d frost.

In my opinion it is a lot easier to hoick out the engine, but you must have a hoist of some sort. And putting it back needs some delicacy of handling to get the gearbox input shaft through the centreplate and into the spigot bearing.

The engine alone is a hefty chunk of cast iron and steel. I bet it weighs about 400 pounds.


Why not ask if someone who has done it before will give you a hand?
