Shock absorber bushes

I ordered a pair of new rear shock absorbers for my Series 3.

The four conical rubber bushes were included with each one. However, am I correct that there should be a steel tube that goes through the middle of these bushes? These tubes were not in the box if they should be there.

What should the length of this tube be? I may be able to make four of them.

Thanks for that. The photo on the box for the shocks shows tubes in place so this confused me.

However, the split pins that they sent are going to be far too big for the holes on the stubs.
 
the pic on the box they came in probably isnt the type you ordered probably just 1 pic on evry box of shocks no matter what make or style
 
The steel tube is the bit on the axle and chassis that the bushes and washer go over. It's quite a chunky split pin.
 
If they are not a good fit then stubs are worn.

I took the shock on one side off today. "Worn" is an understatement for the stubs. The surface of them has completely rusted away. I may just have to clean them up and put them back loose. I can't justify the expense of getting new ones welded on.

MOT fail and bushes will wear away in 10 minutes.Is there no-one on here that will weld new stubs on for you. I would do it but I am 370miles away.
 
I work at a place that has welding kit. It would mean putting everything back together to get my series 3 there then having to take it apart again. Also, they don't like anyone doing home work in work time, and it is pretty obvious having a Land Rover in the workshop. The stubs on the bottom plates are also pretty bad but I suppose the plates could just be replaced. How much would they cost?

There are 3 on Ebay just now for not a lot of money. I will get the item number.Dont know how to do the linky thing.
 
The holes in the front (of rear) spring hangers have also worn to be oval. Does that mean the hangers need to be replaced as well?

I got a new-ish set of springs off ebay to replace the old ones as they are corroded beyond recovery. The bushes in there are alright.

As long as I can get it through the next MOT then it's fine. I could sink more money into it than it's actually worth if I did everything.
