I'm preparing to ship my landy out to Cape Town for a few months of touring around Southern and Eastern Africa. Aiming to get it on board by the end of July / beginning of August.

Anyone out there fancy sharing a 40 foot container? Should save a few hundred quid over shipping in a 20 footer.

Hi

Whilst I dont have any immediate requirements to ship down that way (just yet), I would be very interested in hearing about your shipping details. Who have you chosen to use? how much? I *may* be looking to do something similar next year and trying to gather information on it. Its either that or drive down (my preference!) but the missus just wants to do southern africa.

any info would be hugely appreciated.

The best quote I have so far is from Bibby International Logistics which is £1,575 for a 20' container or £2650 for a 40' High Cube. This includes all fees at this end and gets it to the dock side in Cape Town. There are additional handling / clearance fees there which I'm still waiting on prices for from agents in SA. Definitely a few hundred quid to be saved and the advantage of a higher container which would negate the need to take everything of your roof rack if you can team up with another vehicle.

We were originally planning to drive all the way but the situation in the middle east / northern africa makes that decidedly dodgy at the mo!
