:( just as i turned into work my p38 2.5dse was gutless and i thought mabe it was the injector fault coming up again, so i looked down onto the dash to see the temp in the red, i didnt even get the opportunity to pull off the road before it made the biggest bang you have ever heard and covered the whole area in steam.
giving it a few mins to clear i plucked up the courage to look under the bonet to discover the top of the radiator split in half right from left to right, i was gobsmacked, i have never seen anything like this ever.
can anyone reccomend to me where the cheepest place to get new pipes and radiator would be and what i should be looking for in terms of other damage? ie head gasket?? how would i spot this?
bad start to the day i feel. :(
cheers

cheers for that mate, they are pretty cheep arnt they. what would be the likley cause of this? any ideas, air lock? split pipe? whats confusing is that although it spat out a load of water over everything the rad still appears to be full, confused?? i am...

Hi'

A little bit of water can go a long way especially under pressure and remember that the water in the expansion tank probably replaced the water lost in the burst. Look out for water in the oil or oil in the water - this will show up as a creamy appearence on the dipstick or inside rocker cover. Any serious head gasket problem will show up with water droplets coming from the exhaust after the initial warm up and a rapid overheat sometimes accompanied by the rad bouncing around due to the pressure. Sounds like a head gasket to me but being a mechanic for thirty years you always find something new and unexplained every day.
