SERIOUS tire question (not trolling)

I've perused the tire sticky but still not too sure about the answer, this is a genuine question not just taking the **** to get a rise.

What size tires can I fit on my landy?

I'm currently running BFG all terrain 235/70R 16s on factory disco rims, Ive recently added bearmach +1" springs and 30mm spacers, tbh I'm questioning whether they sent me the +2"s as it sits WAY higher than before (7" from wheel to arch on the rear and 4 1/2" on the front).

I would like to keep the alloys and spacers and fit taller tyres, I'm undecided about wider also as they will give better traction in certain conditions and look the part I quite like the idea of adjusting my steering stops for a better turning circle and presumably the better MPG than with the fatties.

So what would you lot suggest? I'm also undecided about MTs and ATs as I do a fair bit of road miles but it is my off road vehicle also. I would like to buy BFGs again budget depending.

I don't mind a bit of chopping if needs be.

What do ya reckon?

235/85's perhaps? taller but not wider.

I've got +1 springs on mine with 50mm spring spacers and have around 110mm between the arch and the tyre so yours is a bit higher.

I replaced my BFG muds with the STTs and can't recommend them enough, they're easily as good off road and in my opinion are quieter with better grip on the road.

Mine are 265 75 16 so a little wider that standard and can catch the arch.

I think mine will look the same if I put my 235 70s back on.

If you are keeping your alloys with standard offset then 285 70s or 265 75s should stay within the arches. The steel wheels I used sit out a little but can catch the arches.

It also depends on which brand you choose as my 265 75 coopers are a little taller than the same size BFGs.

Hehe yeah its not a good look and something I'm desperate to rectify.

Re arches: I have the factory XS arches fitted so that gives me an extra inch or so but TBH if they stick out a little I'm not that fussed, MOT testers and plod aren't terribly troublesome as long as I'm not taking the ****.

I've got insa traction tracks in 265/75 16 on my standard xs alloys but with a terrafirma +2" kit and they look very chunky.

Just say, with a trim to the rear arch and standard height RR police spec springs I managed to get the traction tracks on without any real trouble - the lift kit just makes sure...

255/85 16 BF Goodrich Mud tyres.

measure up at 33" tall. Nice and thin too.

2" suspension lift, and 2" body lift and arches cut.

To me it looks as there's not much difference to the 'its just left factory' look, ok maybe an inch or so

Not **** taking. But honestly, this question is unanswerable without knowing more info.

Bigger tyres affect more than just the look of a vehicle. So you really need to know what you want them for and what you want to achieve.

The big questions to consider are:

-Budget. Bigger tyres will cost more as a rule.
-Performance. You sig says you are running a V8, this will handle taller tyres better than a Tdi. But will still have an effect, especially if it's an auto. Tall tyres will blunt performance and reduce mpg as a rule. So are prepared to look at diff gears or a different transfer box too?
-Use. Off road use will require a completely different type of tyre to on road use. But importantly, when you get the suspension working, off road you'll need to do more body mods to prevent rubbing/damage than you will on road.

Also, do you know what size alloys you have, the width?

Hi, not too sure of the width of the alloy, a look on google didn't bring anything up, I can roughly measure it up when the Mrs brings it back or perhaps someone on here will possess the knowledge?

Its a manual box, budget is a factor and varies with my job so it will pretty much come down to what I can afford at the time, I will also sell the other good 4 BFGs plus the un used spare on the back to offset the cost. I think another all terrain for my needs but I am tempted to go for a Mud.

I would expect a difference in performance and if it were too bad I would consider altering the gears/transfer box if needs be, I've had this Disco about 8 years now and its still a work in progress, its just finding the money and time to do everything.

I don't want to go too crazy with the wheels as I'm not going for the monster truck look, It would be ott for what I use it for (road use and green laning with the kids/mates/mrs, just to give you an idea of how extreme I've still got the front valance and tow bar on this one so not massively extreme by any means). And as you mentioned it can throw up a whole list of problems that need rectifying if I go too big.
