hello landy people just like to say hello to all and hopefully get some opinions and advice. I have just got hold of a LWB safari station wagon first reg in June 1974, my ? are this Landry hasn't been started for a few years. it has a straight six petrol and seems to have enough spark at the plugs , it does not however appear to be getting petrol past the carb which is aStromberg 175, the chassis and bodywork are both in good order. and has been kept garaged whilst not used, I paid £1000 for it . I would appreciate any advice on starting it and opinions on what I have paid for it Regards Kevin s

Its a series 3 if registered in 1974. What is the condition of the bulkhead and chassis? It might be worth taking the hitch/ drop plate off the back because thats where the crossmember started to rot on mine quite badly

Welcome the forum KevinS.
Difficult to say if he price you paid was right without seeing / knowing more about he condition. The main areas of concern should be condition of chassis & bulkhead. If you can't weld (like me) then repairs to such areas could be costly. 109 csw's seem to be sought after in good condition so would make a good restoration project.
Can't advise you on the carb issue much aside from the old fuel will have gone sticky and gummed up the carb. I would look to drain the tank, replace filter and clean carb first. Fuel pump may need attention too I guess.

+1 for bad petrol and clean points/ dizy cap, put some carb cleaner spray through the carb to clean gunge out:)

I know nothing of the 6 cylinder motor (or 4 cyl for that matter ) but pick up some Easy Start from tesco and squirt a bit down the carb barrel (watch for spit back) and fire her. Just gives you an idea if ignition is ok. If you can pull the carb apart and clean it out with 30psi air and carb cleaner, that is a cheap fix potentially. Check the choke is working ok and all that.

Those 6 cyl engines look pretty interesting and sound quite nice compared to the 4 cyl.

Good luck, sounds like £1k is not too bad bearing in mind those types of series are probably increasing in value, especially the 6 cyl. So rip it out and put a v8 in:D

ive now removed the carb ,and as some mof you said the piston was not freely lifting ,, ive given it agood clean through with carb cleaner and will re-fit on the weekend :)
