I recently bought a Series iii pickup (manufactured 1975 and first registered 1980) and the chassis number has a 911 prefix, ie a petrol model. It's not though, it's a diesel and the DVLA have it listed as a diesel. It's not a 300 tdi conversion or anything like that, it's a 2.25 original series diesel. Have I not been vigilant enough when buying this and bought a dubious one? Thanks so much.

Chassis number match log book? if yes don't worry.
Chassis is all that matters, the rest is just dressing.

Engine swaps are common, the engine blocks are physically compatible, so it's possible that it has a new engine somewhere along the way.

Or the factory got it wrong.....

So long as the log book and the vehicle match, all is good.

My six pot 109 is listed as 1981 with a four pot engine despite the factory records showing that the engine is still the original six pot fitted when it was built, plus it's a 1978.
It was originally sold to NI and when it was reregistered they completely cocked everything up bar the chassis number.
I am not worried about it and will sort it out when the rebuild is sorted. As was said before the chassis number is the important one
