Hi

Got a failed headlamp on a Series IIA, so thought would take the opportunity to upgrade both headlights.. but am a little confused by the choices available!

If I've understood correctly I think I could :

1. Replace just the failed unit with a "Sealed Beam Unit O.e. 7 Inch" (Part No. RTC3682) Link (though not completely clear if this is a like for like replacement with the old bulb?)

2. Replace both lights with "Super Crystal Halogen Headlamps" (Part no. RTC4615C) Link and add some bulbs (Link )

3. Replace both lights with "Ring Quartz Halogen Headlamp Kit" (Part No. JC132) Link

Given the ease of being able to replace the bulbs in option 2, this feels like my best bet... any opinions ? Is there a better option I have missed ?

Also, I have the original Series bracket, but would it be sensible (neccessary?) to by the "Headlamp Bowl Kit" (Part No. DA3208) for any of these options ? ( Link )

Thanks for any advice !

They take standard bulbs and look the dogs nadgers:D

Those tripods do look nice!

I took a slightly different approach. A couple of basic 7" lenses similar to your option 2, and a pair of E-marked LED H4 bulbs. These are nice and bright (as good as halogen), but consume around 35W each, so should stress the wiring and stalk/switch contacts less than regular 55W halogens.

Maybe not a popular choice, as not as pretty as the tripods and neither are they authentic, but they should be practical.

*Note that I've not actually had these MoT tested, yet, nor used them in anger at night, but they are bright and the beam pattern looks OK.

Thanks a lot for taking tyhe time to reply MegaMan, much apperciated.
In the end I decided to go for the tripod lenses (found on amazon for £32 the pair, inc next day delivery! Very pleased with the quality (Mountney branded).. I did order a coupl of standard H4 bulbs (£4 each), but having read your post, I think I may upgrade them to a couple of H4 LED bulbs - very good idea! Thanks

Ooh, now you've got me tempted, at that price! Where they new, or a used set that's now gone? Did they have any more? I have to admit that the clear lens of the units I got, doesn't really fit in with the S3 styling so well. But at least I didn't get any of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174193329379 !

Maybe I could just fit some stone guards...

Hey Megaman... they were brand new from Amazon - having gone to find the link, unfortunately it looks like they've put the price up to £54!!, so it looks like I got a bargain - here's the link though - LINK

Just in case you do go ahead, note that the guard on the tripod lenses is INSIDE the lense itself, so won't help with preventing stone damage !

It's possible the Amazon price pixies have been playing games. Never mind. I'll maybe set up a CamelCamelCamel check to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the pointer, though.

And yeah, I realise the tripod isn't for stone protection. It was just the totally clear lenses on mine look a little bland. Stone guards might just help make it look a bit better. Any stone protection would just be a bonus!
