Sorry for the stupid question, but how many splines does the front half shafts normally have? Is it 24 or 10 spline. Looking at get some free wheeling hubs. thx

Most will have 10 but you never know who put what on after so much time, just remove axle cap, nut and washer to have a look. FWH are much of a marmite item some like some don't, I am of the latter but they do make a handy step to look into engine bay.;)

this ^^ with most current/modern use of a series vehicle they will make no difference, and even if a daily driver the difference is debatable. I sit on the fence, if they are fitted I would not remove them and if the aren't I wouldn't fit them. they do make a very nice step for access into the engine bay, and if you do fit them make sure you remember to engage them form time to time to lubricate the top swivel bearing, and engage them before you need 4x4. We have all got so far and got stuck only to have the muddy walk to go and turn the hubs on before continuing progress!.

Post 1980 axles will be 24 spline, as well as lightweight axles. Remove hub cap to see. Run with the hubs engaged once a month to avoid key components seizing.

My 78 has 24 spline hubs and I know the axles are original:rolleyes: as were the FWH before I removed when rebuilding the axles.
