reet , been landed with an A reg ser 3, 88 hard back, couldnt engage any gears, just loud grinding noises, removed foot wells and seat box, lifted gear box and transfer + over drive out as one, on to bench , removed bell housing and pulled lay shaft out , to descover most of the teeth had been smashed off and wer floatin round in the oil the bearing supporting the layshaft had collapsed causing the dammage, it had obviously been driven with the dammage to its death , the gears had chewed a hole in the main gear casing towards the back under the revers idle gear, rendering it ****in useless,
the question is , i have a spare nearly new ser2a gear casing, internaly it looks the same, externaly the casting marks are very different etc, but stud patterns the same,
so.....can i use the ser2a main gear casing as a replacement for the shagged ser3 one, but use a new set of gears amd layshaft for the rebuid that will match the original suffix of the gear box???
any input apreciated , thanks,
