Hi, I'm new to this and looking for a little guidance please.
I have a 1977 Series 3 swb with what I think is a Rover front diff, but it looks different to the one in the Haynes. It leaks where the prop shaft connects.
It's apart and down to the 4 splined shaft, behind which there is a seal marked "217507 retainers" which looks like a steel one with leather inside. Before I make a mess of it, is it supposed to come out forwards? Or do you have to take the working of the diff apart? What's the best way to remove it?
Thanks in anticipation
Richard

Welcome. You should take this to the Series part of the forum. If its a standard axle you do not need to dismantle the differential. Disconnect the prop shaft first. If you've done that already you should be able to unscrew the assembly. It has a metal cover / ring to protect from all the crud thrown up when in use. The oil seal is rubber not sure what could be a piece of leather.

Thanks John, I'll try posting it in the right place. It definitely isn't a rubber seal though
