hello , i want to upgrade my series 3 so its more usable for work everyday ,not sure which way to go but ive been offered a 300tdi and 5speed box from a discovery ,is it an easy conversion?i know nothing about discos so here are my main concerns:
does it have an ecu ,if so is it a huge problem to wire into a series.
is there an immobiliser to get rid of
does it need the cat keeping in the exhaust
do i need the disco cooling system or can i use the series rad and just locate the intercooler in the front.
will the 5 speed box fit in a series i.e gear lever loations.
is a disco permanent 4wd if so can i use the 5 speed box with my original axles and keep my freewheeling hubs to unlock it to 2wd for road
any help would be appreciated cos i dont like driving my poxy peugeot and i just want my landy back and reliable
cheers

Don't know much about it, but the cat doesn't have to stay ( only on petrols it has to stay) and i think you might have to fit a defender grill to accommodate the larger engine, also not sure on the gear box but I think the gear leavers won't be in a suitable place

Buy a 90! Less hassle all round and probably not much more expensive (unless you're getting the bits for free)

Problem with buying a 90 is its not tax exempt and i think i pay enough to drive on these ****e roads but also i like my series with leafers just wondering about the ecu problem and free wheelin hubs with the 5 speed box i reckon i could crank the levers n lose centre seat if need be but cheers everyone if i push on with this plan ill update with photos n info as i go

no sorry mate im goin through it now been workin nights and tryin to read thru on me phone thru ****holes in snow ,but im back in land of the living now ,so i shall proceed, anyhow i had read the 200tdi was an easy enough swap but cant find many of them in cornwall and then i came across a disco 300tdi in a scrappies with 141000 on it started and ran well just rotten as a pear ,but i can get engine box n ancillaries for 250 quid and then my cogs started ticking but was unsure how many bits match up ,im thinking would it be easier to buy the whole vehicle and then just weigh back in what i dont use ie cooling system, props n all but ill get looking now cheers

;)

Buy the vehicle and break yourself

as to engine, 300 is slightly harder to fit from what I've read, check out the link I posted first about converting disco to defender style box as that'll show you how the box sits, I'll be updating that thread with more pics in the following week once my gearbox quadrant arrives and I can fit the fender mechanism

early 300 will be straight forward enough, ECU can sit where ever you want it to if its the fly by wire one, usually in the drivers footwell on disco so just pop it in the same place on the series or on the bulkhead wall

prop shaft will be very short in the 88 but I'll be off to the workshop with my existing ones soon to modify and will post pics on that too, will probably need wide angle bits but looking to see if I can do it another way first
