Have been talking to a couple local lads about series 3s and was told that there were series 3s sold with the 2.5l n.a. diesel engine for the German market. I got a confirmation from another friend of mine that there were indeed series 3 lightweight sold with the 2.5l engine for the spanish army.
Also makes sense since the series 3 was built untill 1983 and tge 2.5l engine was developed around tge same year.

Does some one know anything about series 3, 88inch with sold with the 2.5l engine from factory? I couldn't find any thing but would like to get some info and if possible paperwork for registering one as classic locally.

Take the lot with a pinch of salt.
Doubt very much about Spanish sales as their army would have been using Santana models. Santana developed their own engines one being a 6cyl straight that was basically the 2.25 rover unit extended to have two more cylinders.
There were 109 models sold with straight 6 petrol up to 1980. 109's were also available with the V8.
Even the early 110's had the 2.25 engine petrol or diesel.
I have info on all models built between 1948 and 1984.
There were though some built by Rovers Special Vehicles Department but only in small numbers.
Not un common for 2.5 to be fitted to series, a pretty straight forward mod.

Yes. Think that's the ones I've been told about. Any idea if there were any for civilian market?

Any idea if I can find docs or any proof of maybe one that was on a series 3 civilian?

Record the engine number off the engine you have, and look on the Glencoyne site.
That will tell you if that engine was fitted in a UK built vehicle.
If it was, then it is a retrofit.
If it wasn't, the German/Dutch connection looks more likely.

The Santana series 33 civilian model came out in 1974 and over the following years moved away from the base Land rover model. They were first with a flush front grill panel, first with one piece windscreen and some later ones even had a turbo long before LR. But Santana did not adopt coil springs and remained on leaf springs.
There was a "Ligero" model that looked like a LR Lightweight soft top but square headlamps in the wings.
A "Cazorla" that looked very much a 110 but without wheel arch eyebrows.

They were also the first to fit power steering as standard to what was a Series...

Problem is my engine is not the original but it was retrofitted at some point but for it to be passed ,as is, and put on classic plates, I need to provide proof that that model was at some point produced from factory or as an option.

No need to be the same one, but that at some point it was available or produced.

Finding a 2.25lt engine is not as easy locally although I managed to find one but needs an overhaul before installing. So if I can keep the 2.5lt it'd be less hassle and more power.

The 2.5 engine is probably marginally better than a 2.25, with the one exception that it has a belt which needs regular changes, whereas the 2.25 is chain driven.
