Read in one of the forums someone with a diesel series 2 with a straight through exhaust.
any advantages/disadvantages in doing this ?
wondered what it would sound like lol maybe a tractor 🤣🤣🤣

Loudly crying, if you try it. You will be deaf and Plod will give you a ticket.

Straight through suits a turbocharged unit because the exhaust gas as it passes through the turbo gets smoothed out resulting in less of a bang.

My 2A Diesel was well down on power when the silencer rotted off last year.
You need some level of back pressure on a non turbo

Best without any back pressure at all on an old diesel, you must have had a problem with something else if it was down on power 🙂

Benefits would be the same as on ANY other engine. The Land Rover one doesn't confirm to different laws of physics.

That said, any gains will be minimal as the engine makes so little power anyway.

As for noise, difficult to tell. Its not as if the engine is quiet and refined anyhow. And plenty of people have run Tdi's with straight through exhausts over the years which don't get super loud. The turbo will add some silencing, so I'd expect a NaD to be louder.

Basically it'll do no harm, but offer only minimal (maybe even imperceptible) improvements and could just end up making a lot of noise.

I had a straight through on for a year only cos I was too tight to buy a pipe and I live in the middle of nowhere
Anyway don’t do it, it’s a bastard racket, itll do your head in I had to wear chainsaw ear muffs to cope wi it after a month or two
