Finally got trevor in a shape where i feel i need to test drive him.

Had him up and down the farm track a few times.

When i get over 0.7 on boost regardless of speed my turbo screeches , i dont mean turbo whine i mean full on stood on a cats tail screech.

Checked my turbo and exhaust manifolds and intercooler hoses ....

Is it possible i have a holed intercooler - its well used and rusty - could that cause a screech -

does any one have any ideas for testing without just firing the parts cannon at it

as obviously the turbo doesnt create boost without load so i cant replicate it in the drive.

Although even with the noise this thing goes like a scalded cat and has half decent road manners when all 4 tires are in good nick and match :)

Oh and one other thing . Does your speedo work in reverse .... Mines just tries to bend to the stop . Works fine going forwards - its been tht long since i drove him i have no idea if it did that before or not .

Pull the turbo pipe off the output side and take it for a drive without the turbo, it will spool up enough to see if it is the turbo or associated pipework.

No howl with the turbo outlet removed , can hear the turbo spooling up so shes trying.

Think im gonna start with inlet and exhaust gaskets - i know the previous owner had it off before i bought it so theres a chance of buggered gaskets will phone caldwell and dempster in morning and see what they have.

It seems the only safe thing to assume with previous owners is they are all useless mechanics....

Timing belt was out 2 teeth on the cam and 1 on the FIP so i stripped out the rocker and push rods to see if anything had colided.

Then still smoking a bit at idle. So i pulled it to bits.

Split round inlets 1 and 4 and no bolts in the bottom through holes on the inlet manifold. - the ones you cant really see when the turbos in situ with the exhaust manifold

Replaced it all. Loadsa poke and no smoke.
