Since i keep my disco on the street, and there have been more than a few car thefts over the years in my area im thinking about security.

At the moment im leaving it to fate and the hope any theives wouldnt notice the transfer box bing in neutral, but im thinking more along the lines of visable security.

Anyone use a Clutch Claw? Are they as good as everyone makes out and worth the cash?!

Sometimes I will disconnect my fuel valve electrics, and starter motor ignition wire, leave it in neutral TB, and put a crook lock on if I have to leave it in a dodgey area, now that even takes me a good 5minutes to get it ready to move again!

I am going to get these wires wired into a hidden switch in the cab at some point.

I would advise some alarm stickers, a flashing LED, things like help deter I guess.

I have a flashing led on the dash already, I figure its attached to some sort of imobilisor actuated on the driver door lock. The indicators flash when u lock or unlock it anyhow.

Thats the alarm, what more are you looking to fit?

They can be a pain to start when you have the key and the immobilser doesn't work properly, let alone someone trying to steal it.

The Discovery is fairly secure, if you are worried about those little neds then I would say maybe then a visible deterent like a steering lock would be good.

First rule is flashing lights on dash.

And DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT advertise what alarm system you have installed in your car. If you told me you had a toad alarm, thanks, with a simple decoder and signal booster i could crack your alarm code while you slept form round the corner, cheers.
Thats how the pros do it, the equipment dont cost that much and for the right vehicle it pays on its first use.

Visible flashing led's work brilliantly, so much so i would always advise a seperate led as well as factory fitted, even if its only connected to an ignition source when turned off.

Also, try to think about parking it. If you parked it in a cul de sac, face the car inwards, not outwards. Simple but effective.
Trust me.

Oh as for steering locks, er ok, fair point. But if they have gone to the trouble of getting in and not being worried about noise and lights, do you really think a steering lock is going to make much difference?
Sorry to burst ya bubble here matey, but there isnt a decent one on the market that cant be removed in under 60 seconds. Stopping them from getting in or thinking twice is the key.

As a caravanner, we use a simple rule. We know they can be pinched, no matter what security device is on it, so the key is to make yours LESS attractive to attempt than the one up the road. MAke the thief go for Freds, not yours.

Id ahve to feed one of them tho, and stop it from ****ting in the car! I think more flashing leds is the way forward.

I had a stering wheel lock on my old car, never bothered to lock it as it was too much of a faff, Had the car stolen and they just bent it off, silly ideots did not even try to open it normaly!

As lenny says about caravans make it as hard as possible, so like some caravaners, take the wheels of and leave it on bricks. Saves them steeling the wheels. Oh but they might nick the bricks!

a simple hidden switch under the dash. cut into the ign wire will stop most of em. cheapest and prob most effective.
time is the one thing they dont have. if it dont start immeadiately, they will **** off and look at freds disco/caravan combo.
