seat belt regulations

Inward facing seats need to have lap belts [I think since 1985]. Three point seat belts are not recomended for this seating arrangement as they can snap your neck.

Side facing seats on 110s may have an age limit on them - just in the same way that minibuses have age restrictions on passengers travelkling sideways.

I don't have access to the regs at the moment but I think it affects 9 seats or more.

In a side swipe the speed of the vehicle hitting the side of the other vehicle is legally at most 70mph.

The combined speed in a head on collision with the two speeds added together is 140mph.

As momentum is 1/2 mass x velocity squared, speed is the most significant factor.

Hence my comment - and possibly why VOSA recomend lap belts only.

110's aren't minibuses - they are 12 seater cars

my 89 90 CSW has side tip up seats in the rear, with no belts. When i bought it i was told that since it dint have them when it was built, it doesn't need them. I looked into getting some lap belts fitted, but it was too much hassle since i would have to have a piece of plate made up to go from where the mountings for the seat (and belt) to the chassis as the seat belts have to be anchored to the chassis.
I think belts were fitted to side facing seats post '93

try insuring one for a young driver. some minibuses have 9 seats only whereas a csw has 12 seats. i couldn't care less what you think prince, just ask the insurance people cos i'm damn sure they wouldn't say "oh ok" if i told em prince said its just a 12 seater car

12 seat 110 CSWs are classed as minibuses. I nearly bought an early one, but couldn't as my licence would only let me drive a vehicle with 8 seats or less, irrespective of whether they had people in them or not. To drive one i would have to obtain a minibus endorsement, when i am 25.

Any more than 8 seats then it is a minibus.

I understand that the driving licence changed and younger drivers need to pass an additional test to drive with more than 9 seats.

I'll have to complain to Land Rover for not fitting an engine cut off switch, or fitting 3 point inertia belts, or a passenger aisle in my minibus.

My insurance says 5 door estate 12 seats - Land Rover insurance underwritten by Royal & Sun

well that is obviously because its insured by landrover(the people that made it).
