I've just had a second sealed headlight unit in my 90 200tdi go in a month. Whilst reading the workshop manuals it appears that the older 90s came with sealed units whilst the 300tdi came with reflectors and bulbs. I presume that it's no more difficult to switch from one to the other than it was for me to take the sealed unit out :)

What are the pros and cons of each setup?

for the sealed it unlikey to get water into it, but more eggpensive to change when it goes

yer normal bulb type is cheaper to swap and yer can get higher wattage bulbs but may allow water to gert in and bugger it up

otherwise they'er about the same

Thanks. I thought as much. Whilst picking up a new sealed headlight this afternoon I spoke to the guy at the garage who suggested that if I wanted to switch then it's what's commonly sold as a "Halogen conversion kit" for around £40-50 that I'm looking for. He also recommended replacing the metal ring the light sits in with a plastic one at the same time (which aparantly is the same as on a mini).
