I believe the seal above the windscreen on my series 3 has gone as water was coming in and dripping down the inside of the pillar last night when it was raining.

lrseries lists this seal for Defenders, which is a strip of self-adhesive foam. Was the same type of seal used on the Series 3? I have read somewhere else online that these seals can leak even when new. Does anyone have any tips on better ways of sealing the roof against water?

Thanks for any info.

Same thing slightly shorter I think as the series one I had was a different part number to the fender

Silicone would be the best if you're not planning on taking the roof off in summer, if not I'd suggest adhesive neoprene or cutting up an old wetsuit then using tack spray

a good idea if useing the self adhiesive neoprene strip try and stick the sticky side to the galvanised windscreen not the roof section

and prep the area to stick it to with a cotton rag loaded with thinners and scrub vigourousley let it dry of its own accord then buff up with a clean dry cloth the adhiesive will stick like bollock yoghurt to an action man quilt ( theres no way its comeing off or leaking ):D:D:D:D:D

I went out to have a look earlier. I think the leak may be from the gutter round the top of the roof above the windscreen instead of the windscreen to roof joint. The gutter has been sealed with silicone before but this has now peeled away. I will replace the silicone and see if that stops it.

Today I found that there was a gap in the corner of the roof above the passenger side door where the rivets have corroded away. I tried sealing it with silicone, but that didn't work (as I found out when it rained earlier). At work we use a sealant called sikaflex which seems to be really good stuff. My next plan is to seal the roof both inside and out with that. There is alot of water getting in at the moment which needs to be dealt with as it is a right pain.
