Screw on brake drum

i am having unbleviable difficulty trying to get off one of the screws that holds the drum on.
some one has had a hack at it in the past so it isnt as crisp as it could be.
i have got all the others off from the other drums but it is only this one that is proving such trouble.
i have tryed letting it soak in wd40 - no luck
" " heating the sorounding area - no luck
im not sure what to try next with out nukeing the screw totaly
can any one help please?

I've had this with minis in the past - if there's enough of the screw head left you can try cutting a groove in it to take a big flat bladed screw driver. If that doesn't work or there's not enough screw head left you can drill a hole into the milddle of the screw, reverse thread it and use a reverse thread bolt to turn the screw out. Takes a really steady hand to get right.
 
Having spent more than a few days this last week taking wheels and drums off...putting them back on...back off etc. I feel qualified to answer this one...

take a small cold steel chisel, or a stoat flat-headed driver and tap it around in the correct direction using what little is left of the screwdriver recess as your lip to work against. If the recess is gone, use a cold steel chisel to make a new one and do the same. You can always replace the screw, although I have read on here somewhere that it's pretty pointless anyway and the wheel nuts will hold the drum on sufficiently...but I have to say I got hold of replacements rather than do without.

If you still can't budge them just chisel the head away and then drum will come off over it. The remaining stub will come out with mole grips later.

And if you then ask how to free up the brake adjusters I may begin to cry out loud. You've been warned!

when i come to put it all back together are these screws realy nesscery as they are such a pain to get out and the weel holds it all on any way. if they are realy needed is there any tips on making them easyer to come out in the future?

They'll come out a hell of a lot easier next time if you put a bit of coppaslip on the screw thread before you put it back in.

As cobweb says - you don't 'need' them as the wheel nuts hold them on, but as they're OEM I've always refitted them.

sometimes, just bashing em with a decent sized hammer will lossen em enough to let the screwdriver get going.

its true you dont really need em. but one day you might find yourself changing a wheel and the feckin drum will come off with it!
 
funny things are brake drums. of the thousands ive removed, nearly all of them required some persuasion with a big feck off hammer.
very few of them ever, simply just fell off?
(no matter how poor the brakes were).
 
iv just spent the last hour or so trying to get this screw out!! and guess what! still NO luck....
 
If it realy wont go! The drums are made of cast iron if your replaceing them anyways just crack them with sledge hammer!! My mate did this on his 109 was rather intertaining!
 
Warm up screw with blow torch.

Use big flat screw driver and lean on it to engage with slot. Use some molegrips on flat of screw driver to give you more leverage.

If this does not work you will need to drill it out.
 
i finaly got the screw out with a impact driver!!! wooow
the drum it self did need a little encouragement but the trusty hammer soon sorted that out!
