My 90's body is corroding, really fast.

As much as I love the colour that she is I'm going to have to paint her and soon.

I plan to do everything I can to slow the corrosion, like insulating between the steel and aluminium and treating all the bolts that I can with insulation but I know that she will still corrode.

So I want to paint her with something that I can keep touching up and not notice too much.

I was thinking that NATO green or sand in a matt or satin finish.

I have read that a matt finish is difficult to maintain?

Can a satin finish be patched up without showing much?

I would love to see some pictures of these colurs and some camo patterns as I plan to get this done the first of next year.

I will have a proffesional painter strip and spray the truck.
Any tips on primer and paint would be helpful also.

Thanks.

Hi,

I bought a knackered 90 back in June to fix up - almost finished now!
Painted it a few weeks ago in matt olive drab, ordered from trade paints uk via their ebay shop.
I'm really pleased with the results - I'll try and attach a few photos if I can.
I put one coat on, left it for a week to harden off, flatted it back using 600grit wet abrasive paper, then put on another coat to finish.
I used a mini foam roller rather than a brush as the finish is much better...really does not look hand painted unless you look very close.
For info - I ordered the matt olive drab paint but would say it's more like satin, does have a bit of a sheen.

Hope this helps,

Pete

That looks really nice!
Thats pretty much what my truck will look like.

I am thinking that that may be a bit dark, summer is really hot here so perhaps the sand will suite me better?

Thanks.

Hi,

My previous 90 that I owned a couple of years back (should never have sold it!!) I painted in matt desert sand - picture attached.

This paint was a lot more matt than the green I have just used and did mark quite easily - if you are doing anything in the engine bay be sure to put an old blanket over the wing first, as dirty fingerprints will stay in the paint for good!

Good luck,

Pete

That looks really good!

Thats the color I want, perhaps if I do it in a satin it wont stain as easy?

Thanks.

This was a satin finish that was easy to touch up and didn't show any marks.

I painted mine in matt nato green with a brush as below. However, next time i will use satin as it looks a bit better and doesn't mark nearly as badly. would also recommend a 4 inch roller instead of a brush as it looks a lot better :D

I used satin finish on my landy, sooo much easier to keep clean.
Bought from local paint shop, synthectic satin, thinned with white spirit and applied with a gloss roller.

Man that looks frikin awesome!!!!

If I did that to mine it would be the only one in the country.

Do you think it would look retarted if I did it like that but left the roof white?
