hey guys. I know, with no pictures etc it makes it hard. I have not even seen it, but the salvage yard is SJA in norfolk.

I have been offered diff (round) guard, steering guard, rear swing arm carrier and a safaria snorkel. £200. Does that sound good? not used to salvage yard etc, but I know this is much cheaper than if I was to buy it new.

I thoght the safara snorkel had a inside fitting? but he said it just bolts to outer side, and up windscreen frame. Is that right. What a novice lol.

approx ebay prices:

snorkel = £60
diff guard = £20
wheel carrier = £80
steering guard = £20

if it's all good quality kit, and the snorkel is complete i'd offer him £150 - but £200 isnt a rip off

no doubt someone will post how they can get xyz for 50p

cool, he sounds nice on the phone, but that dont mean anything lol. trbod I dont know if he is decent yet, but well see. He is a proper Norfolk guy, which means he half way to be good already!

bout snorkel. When I see images etc it shows an inside the bonnet bit that connects to the vent., that connect to the snorkel. It this inner bit, just my normal vent passage?

What am I looking to make sure is included when I get the snorkel. Baring in mind he said he is taken it off a 200tdi defemder, which is what I have so I assume it will have the works.

the grill on the vertical face of the wing pops off, and the snorkel wing plate mounts using the 5 or 6 mountings that the vent passage uses to fix from inside the wing - just make sure you use silicone or some waterproofing goo to get a seal

but then if you've had another engine put in and the air box moved the standard vent is likely not to be connected to anything

It's not likely to be anything that a couple of feet of flexi pipe and a tube of silicone won't sort.

ok I got it. The safari (genuine) snorkel looks sound, and has a seal inside it also. When I screw it to the landy, is there a certain lengh of screw I need, both for wing and for the windscreen bar. (tac screws are needed right?). Looks as if someone used it properly before as some old sealant around it. What sealant should I use? Im off to B&Q tommorrow to get the stuff!!

I also got a mantec swing arm wheel carrier. Heavily corroded, but only on outside, I hit it with a hammer and solid. I am taken it down to a clean surface, in places to the metal and im going to use hammerite on it (I know you can paint direct to metal, but should I use some red poxy primer?). Also striping rest of it and cleaning it up, greasing it etc. Looks solid, but gona take about 4-5 hours work to make it look good (is this normal for salvaged items from scrappy?).

Got a round diff guard. Looks slghtly corroded, shall I clean it up and again use hammerite to paint it up. but looks pretty damn solid again.

The steerin guard has no rust, thinks its galvanised, and has 4 by 4 shaped in it, what brand is this? is it good?.

got a nice leather bench seat which I think is new. which will fit two people. no seat belts tho, but I have a belt strap which I did use in the front before cubby holder. I need to fit seatbelts right? its a 1991 landy.

Also got a discovery wheel, with tyre, but its R16 235, as adposed to my defender ones R16 205. Wont be a prob tho will it? Its gona be my spare wheel.

All cost me £230 from my local salvage yard.

What do you guys think?
