Sagging Headliner

The headliner on my 1989 Chevy S10 Blazer is sagging big-time...not to
mention its ripped in one spot. What's the best way to remedy this without
replacing it? Staples?

take it out, spray the backing board with 3M super 77 or similar adhesive
and re-stick the fabric.

The headliner is basicly three parts: Fabric cover (what you can
see), thin foam padding underlayment, and a fiberboard backing for
shape. Usually what happens is that the foam padding disintigrates and
the fabric cover falls loose.
The only way to fix it so it looks good is to remove all the
padding and fabric, and glue on some new stuff. It's not an overly
difficult job, but it is time consuming.

Unfortunatly, that comes out like crap. Tried on my car, and was not
happy with the results.. The fabric is thin and without a backing. The
glue bleeds right through.

go to pep boys and buy 5 or 6 packages of the twist in headliner supports.
small as thumb tacks, but twist in and stay nice.
There are 6 or 8 per package and i used them in the headliner of my xj
cherokee and they work great. takes 1 minute per twist and you can space
them 6 or 8 inches apart and keep adding them as the liner comes loose in
more places.
When added , they look like stars in the ceiling. hehe good

I used common sewing pins, pushed in "sideways" almost parallel with the
fabric surface. They've held my '90 Caddy's headliner up for years.

....Or most fabric stores have them - called "Twist Pins" and made by Ditz.
Stay away from the ones made in China; the head falls off them.

That's what's in my 74' C-10. Seems to hold pretty good.

I had that problem with an '83 toy. I just ripped the thing down.

Never gave it a second thought after that.
