s3 2nd row of seats

Hi guys my names craig im new here. Bought an ex mod s3 lwb the other day very cheap! Needs the usual chassis welding etc so im starting to strip it down. Its a 3 door with just 3 seats up front at the min. I was really hoping to add a second row of seats and was hoping you could advise me the easiest way to do this. Is it as straight forward as adding a middle door pillar and cutting out the rear tub to bolt more doors on or is there more to it? I would imagine its easier to keep 3 doors and make the front seats fold down for access to the back but is this legal? Sorry for the long thread thanks in advance!

You can get bench seats from Exmoor Trim that simply bolt into the rear tub. Cutting into the body is a huge n risky job. You would affect the structural integrity of the body. The strength comes via the seat support panels. If you fit bench seats you'll need to fit seat belts. If you had original seats you would not need to do that. Sounds like you have a hard top. You can easily retro fit windows to create more of a safari style. If you really want forward facing rear seats you'd have to buy a 12 seat safari - they are rare beasties to find though.

Side facing seats dont need seat belts if that makes it any easier for you?

Cheers for the advice guys i understand it will be a faff to cut out the tub then i would have to move fuel tank etc. Im rebuilding this landy and was hoping to make it more practical and safer for the kids. I can fit seat belts and do most refrabricating work as ive done lots on my swb which has always been mot approved. i was wondering what would be needed to make rear seats mot worthy? Can i fit strenghthening bars on the chassis then put a seat box in place and make the front seats fold forward? Bear in mind im rebuilding it from the chassis up so no works too much work as im in no rush. I know buying a safari would be easier but they are rare as rocking horse eggs and more expensive. Plus ive already got this one. Cheers

If you do all that, not sure what the implications would be for getting it insured, you'd have to declare all the mods. By the by, for MOT you aren't allowed seats that can tilt forward, mine are now fixed to he bulkhead with a tie so that they cannot tilt forward.
