Just thought id keep you posted on my dog of a job at hand this weekend.

Managed to finally cut the Rear mounting plate bolts out (had to remove the rear half of the exhaust to get to them).

Pics show how corroded it is/was.

I then proceeded to clean up the old brackets, golly the bolts were sized in here - one of them wouldnt even press out so i spent an age drilling it out....must get some better drill bits!

I then as advised got to work removing the old bushes, basically hit them with my gas plumbing torch and set alight, once the two inner sleeves were removed I hacksawed through the last sleeve and cold chisled it out.

Problem is my fulcrum bracket is still stuck fast to the A-frame arms, ive bashed and whacked it to death and its not budging :(
Ive left it to soak overnight in some diesel (drained from my tank) to see if that will help any.

Next job is to get my balljoint out....hmm, now that aint gonna be easy either!

woohoo

managed to get one arm off my fulcrum bracket!!

The other is stuck fast still so another night submerged in Diesel may do the trick.

Brackets primed with Zinc182 and spray painted, chassis cross member now rubbed down and primed too with isopon zinc182.
This cross member is a little rotten but should be ok for now - have any of you had this cross member replaced (the one that holds the A-Frame)

All of the welding work on my landy is around this damn frame - must be a weka point on the 90 no?

Wel finally managed to get A-frame apart today, arms free...took heating, cooling, diesel soaking and a 6ft sledge hammer to free the bolts - crikey!

Painted arms and put new bushes in with plenty of copper slip, fitted to brackets and now just waiting for my ball joint to arrive so i can press out the old and in with the new.

while I was waiting for paint to dry I replaced injector leak-off banjo copper washers and also removed intercooler to check hoses and to flush out with petrol - look how much black crap I got out in the bucket!!!

Before you press out your old ball joint CUT the lugs off the old one ( that the bolts go through ) :D , soz if you already know this but Ive seen it done in the past and they didnt get very far lol .

no worries and thanks for looking out for me-i've already got the lugs cut off and submerged in diesel overnight-awaiting the 100tonne press at work tomorrow :0)

will let you know when new one cones and if old one budges :)

Well got the ball joint pressed out ok at work (we have a 100Tonne press, it went with a bit of a bang!)

Applied black hammerite to chassis and cross member (see pics) as the anti-rust primer had set hard, just going to give it a coat of 'Hammerite with added waxoyl' before i waxoyl the whole thing when im done....shouldnt rust for a while after that lot I hope!

Some corrosion evident on the end wings of the cross member...is this an mot failure you reckon?

New ball joint should arrive today by fedex from Paddocks, the clanky at work turned some pipe down for me so it fits over the end of the ball joint nicely so I can press it in without damaging it....nice!
