me back again looking for more answers to my freebie diesel conversion
sorry its long but please read on
ok looking at the rave cd's for both car and freebie seems boxes are diff as the final gear is in the ird of freebie and in box of bubble.
on the freebie there's a switch on the box, 1st gear switch for the H/D obviously this is not on the bubble box, plus the final drive in the bubble box and 1 in freebie so this will mean 2 final drives. assuming you cant have 2????
ok next
the drive shafts are thicker on the diesel to petrol box's so this will mean i will have to locate a diesel IRD aswell??????

The unit is referred to as a PG1 gearbox. It is based upon a well proven design and is currently fitted to a number of other Rover Group products, (albeit in a slightly different specification). The main differences between the versions fitted in Freelander derivatives and those fitted to other vehicles are:
· Removal of the internal differential, (which on Freelander vehicles has been relocated into the IRD).
· Fitment of a first gear switch, (used in conjunction with the Hill Descent Control system).
· Introduction of a reverse gear brake mechanism (to elimintate clash when
selecting reverse gear).
ok so this leads me onto the petrol box, the ratio's are different
but been told this will still work ok just have higher revs to maintain speed???
so now if i use the petrol box with the diesel engine, this will allow me to use the drive shafts and IRD that i already have??
but will this have its own problems apart from minor ratio one??????

The specification of the clutch cover is common to both diesel and petrol derivatives,in other words, the same cover is fitted to all Freelander vehicles. The cover has a 228 mm drive surface diameter and incorporates a diaphragm type spring.
The specification of the clutch drive plate varies according to the type of engine installed in the vehicle, i.e. petrol or diesel. The drive plate fitted to all petrol derivatives is 215 mm in diameter, while the drive plate specified for use in all diesel derivatives is 228 mm in diameter
ok by the clutch drive plate they mean clutch??? now on this point as the box's petrol/diesel are the same the thicker diesel cutch will be ok in the petrol box.
now the final part
can anyone tell me if the box's can be reworked eg bit from both to get a propper working diesel box and the difference in the IRD shaft input be changed???
and idea of cost???
