Ok im gona have a bash at DIY on the roof lining I have just ordered 3m of Faux Suede (Weight 340g per metre) its the slightly thicker one the other is 300g and 240g which I think is too thin its not like its going to have any ware and tear on it, so you can go for a thinner one I guess, it will be on the roof untouched so it wont matter too much, my only worry with the thinner ones is the glue might bleed through the fabric and show when its fitted, I have some contact adhesive (2 cans of trimfix spray adhesive , high heat resistant 500ml each) I'm getting cream Faux Suede, when ordering you have to be careful of the width of it as there seems to be at least 2 sizes, one is too short and the other is going to be about just right (i think and hope) Width: 150cm is the one you need (just an inch under 5 Ft) and you need it at least 3m long (9ft at least) I don't know if I should take photos of the fitting and like a run through if there's a demand for it I will, as last time I did my panels I don't think anyone really used them or was interested ?? anyway, the whole thing with glue and fabric is less than £30 Nation wide trim is £280 plus fuel going to and from your house to get it done, (about £45 in my case) so its a big saving

I'd be interested in seeing your results.

If you don't do a thread, could you at least send some pictures or some idea as to how the process went via pm.

If enough is interested, I will do a step by step guide, or at least a tips guide as to how to DIY it

OK I'm learning from you now, so a light spray with the glue and a thicker material that I have just bought should do the trick, I did suspect that it might bleed through though, glad a got the thicker one now

My droopy head lining is annoyingly touching me head now, so I'll be following this with interest. Too many other things to sort out first, so a professional job isn't an option just yet.

I do need to remove the roof panels in the near future though, as I'm bodging some roof rails, which will need bolting through from the inside.

If your re-lining project looks DIY achievable, I could follow suit whilst the panels are out. I have no skylight or speakers to complicate matters, but I do want to figure a wiring access point for a roof bar as well.

A guide would be good, I'm going to have to do mine at some point.
£60K range rover, 11 years old, dash blistering and headlining sagging, £6K Toyota MR2, 25 years old, dash and headlining perfect and it's lived most of it's life outside.

depending on how much cloth I have left over I might do the sunroof in a different colour, like black or something like that, but darker anyway, that way (my thoughts anyway) is it will look more "customised" the cloth I'm getting now isn't the same as the original liner, and its Faux Suede anyway so it will look completely different to the original in texture and colour, and I think the 2 tone will make it just look different and improve the look and make it look nicer, the new liner i am getting had NO foam back on it, I don't see the point in getting foam again, if it has dropped before I see no reason it wont drop again, I'm hoping with the changes it will still work OK

The last few weeks I have been sourcing things just in case I want to do it, the cheapest place I could find the adhesives

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

The place I got the Faux Suede (have a look they do all different types of cloth but remember you need the one that's 150cm wide

Home - Fabric Online

just have a look and see what's best for you, this isn't the cheapest site, but for the thickness and the width of the cloth I couldn't find better, also have a look at the 225g ones, there sometimes a lot more than that, they have just put them in the wrong weight category

Dopey, was it you who did the leather pillar panels? Thats a job I wanna do, and ya headlining idea will be good as mine has started parting company near the back! Ya should do a how to

Yea I did the panels in cream leather, there sill up there and look good, that's one of the reasons I was thinking cream for the roof as well, they will match up better that way

You may as well do the both in one go, the side pillars have to come off to do the roof lining anyway, and it wouldn't be such a bad idea to do them out of the same material, I did my pillars in leather

I will probably do a HOW TO seems like there's enough interest, if you look at the fist page of this thread I have a good supplier (link) and there's a lot to chose from on there site and the prices seem to be reasonable

I know this is a strange request, but I'm looking for some OLD headlining material ... Two bits about 12" x 24" will do it.

I have DVD player screens mounted on my headreasts which I normally cover with some micro fibre cloths, to keep the sun off, and make them less obvious in Tesco's carpark. The black M/F cloths look ok with the Black leather in my ol' Jag, but look terrible in the RRC, which has a beige Teddy Bear interior.

As my Interior upholstery is 26 yr old, using NEW material wouldn't match in as well as old headlining. OK, yes I know I'll have plenty of OLD material spare when I re-new the headlining, but as I said earlier ... there's lots of other things to sort out first, but the DVD screens are there now.

When I take mine off you can have it, I will post it to you, but it will come with no sponge backing because when you take it off it leaves the sponge behind I think? but anyway its your otherwise I will just bin it anyway

Edit to say, mine is grey......

Just what I was looking for as I need to do my roof lining as well, so I will watch with interest, and will be ordering from your supplier(s) a soon as I can see what's involved.

Thanks for the offer Dopey, but I'm looking for a beige to blend in with the seats. I'll keep looking in the scrapyards, but there ain't many yards around here now. Still keeping me eye open around the farms, but though old landies are common, Rangies are quite rare around here.
