After a good day playing at Coney Green stourport, I am seriously considering having a roll cage fitte to my 110 county station wagon. After seeing some of the stupid things some guys do, and having one or two squeaky bum moments whilst reversing back down a climb, almost ending up sideways on one, not down to heavy breaking or going too fast.

The point I'm trying to get to is does anyone know where a decent cage an be bought for reasonable money, as I don't have £1200 kicking around lol
Or could it be made cheaply, I know a good coded welder with access to all bending, cutting and welding equipment required.

I don't do anything extreme and don intend to, but with a young son and another child on the way safety and piece of mind if anything were ever to go wrong is what I am looking for.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks Tom

There is a chap on ebay that works out of a unit in stratford i think, he is supposed to be quite good. ill see if i can find an address or name.

Other than that there is safety devices(forum sponsor), north off road, p&p(performance and protection) or Malcolm whitbread(whitbread off road).

Too be honest i think your better off saving the money and getting it done properly if its your kids!

You dont want to get a cage done cheaply for it to go wrong when you need it most.

Just take it easy until you do get one.

I have been in exactly the same position. Have actually put my 110 on its side through driver error. Fortunately just a gentle tip over so no damage.

When I asked the same question on my club forum it was suggested that a quality roll cage on a 110 would just make it top heavy and more likely to roll.

Does anyone have an opinion on that? I've got a 2" lift on which probably wouldn't help matters!

In theory it would put more weight on the sides but pretty sure it would balance it out really as you'd have the same weight acting on either side although it might raise the CoG slightly with a higher weight being on the top of the chassis, doubt it would make too much difference though

whitbread would get my money

Really? interesting.

Im not impressed with whitbreds website to be honest. Its ****, it has dead ends and products that arent well described, no photos etc etc. Anyway, ive always thought that if people cant be arsed to shhow me what they have etc then i dont think i can be arsed to spend my money with them.

Ill be getting a quote for a safety devices cage and a p&p cage as they have a good rep.

dont know wether to go full cage or just internal/external though.

WEbsite isnt the best but he has been doing it for donkeys for competition use since day dot many a comp safari and trials have tested their cages and they work again ana again. Preebrake may do you a better deal but a 110 can be more hassel than a truck cab motor.

I always say that unless your cage is to a design and spec approved by the msa its not worth owt

One of the reasons i wanted a P&P cage, theres are msa spec.

For me it wont matter too much about it being MSA but if i sell it then it might be a selling point for someone.

What's the point of having a cage that won't take a hit?

I've got a guy in west yorks came recommended and at a good price, mine will be full external over the van body but go to the chassis on all the legs plus a internal x behind the seats plus other little bits.

Many cages are one hit and it reforms cds minimum spec certainly deforms after a bad one. I like my red band take knocks all day everyday. The extra cost in material with cds and cost of machinary for bending is great if you.want a.light weight one hit tight roll cage. Me a rollcage should be tough and take.bangs some people use thicker walked cds.but the red band is far cheaper and had been proven in comps since day dot. For.me the cost is not justified for.my use others have a different.outlook

KORC off roading. rolling down a hill MUST WATCH!! - YouTube

thats a good a reason as any to spend out on a decent roll cage!! lucky the guy had the sense to let his kid get out before

Prime example of not being prepared! I saw a 90 upside down on the A34. The roof was flush with the bonnet killing all the occupants. That's why I put a safety devices cage on the one I had.
