in my 300tdi, I have the usual R380 box. I have just noticed that the reversing lights come on & then go off, when selecting reverse. I can make them come back on by pulling the gear lever over to the right. If I let go of the gear lever, so it springs back to its usual reversing position, the lights go off again.

So I thought I would crawl underneath and adjust the switch...... Apparently the R380 reversing switch aint adjustable? it just screws into the gearbox casing till it bottoms :(.

Is this likely to be a switch or selector mechanism probs? replacing/adjusting switch no probs... taking selector mech apart - think i cant be arsed.

wotcha reckon?

I've got an LT77 but it sounds suspiciously like my last reverse switch. Was screwed in all the way and worked intermittently till it just died. New switch solved that no bother and only screws in half way now

could be poor switch or ramp on selector yoke is worn could be repaired , to replace yoke the gear box top needs lifting off not difficult

will try switch, else might be a trip to Lincoln :(.

forgot to say 1st-2nd crunches. 3rd-4th needs double declutching  - but thats another problem ;)

i had the same problem found out the reverse selector yoke had a groove in it.the thing was if that snapped there would be no reverse.Ive changed the gearbox now

Had same problem ! Got new switch same prob! Could not be arsed crawling about so bought a rocker switch with light and connected it to reverse switch wires. So reverse lights come on when I press switch, plus I've connected spot light so got loads of light now. Also turns on rear camera as we'll anytime I want. Can scare **** out of people @ traffic lights! Bonus.
Positioned switch@ side of gear stick so easy to see ( if you do this make sure switch has light on ! Makes it less easier to leave on.)
