reverse selection problem

Hi there everyone. I have got a series3 lwb safari, it has a six pot engine which runs like a dream after a little bit of work, initially the clutch was u/s. I fitted a new master and new slave cylinder, when I first tried the gears I could only get reverse,but after a little adjustment to the master cylinder push rod was able to engage all forward gears. Only to find I could then not get into reverse. The gare hinge opens up OK but the selector rods won't move back. Any ideas would be much appreciated help

one of the other selectors will be out of line sligthly,may need new detent springs and balls

all 3 selector jaws have to be exactly in line ,1 sounds like it isnt

hi James , thanks again for the info all the selectors appeared in line but an old screw had fallen somehow into the reverse ball socket , no problem engaging reverse once I had removed it. Cheers again
