through the winter its to allow the lanes to recover from heavy rain and erosion during the wetter months. some restricted lanes will re-open this month or the next. others are sometimes on perm. restriction and will prob never open again. most effected are north somerset, salisbury, parts of whiltshire and devon. exmoor particularly. some in wales have been too, most due to the new gas pipeline traversing across the south of the country.

ps. dont drive on restricted lanes as this gives the ramblers ammo for the government to close lanes to motorised traffic. and they will take your number plates. its not worth it. take an os map and find another way. also be polite to those ****ers in red socks

Not to be confused with restricted byway, which used to be known as RUPP and are now only for non motorised traffic (not sure about Motorbikes) but deinately no cars/ 4x4s

What I meant was I know Cars and 4 x 4s are banned but I don't know if the ban applies to MotorBikes.

County Council's R O W Officer should be able to tell you which lanes are open and which have TRO's on them. "Restricted Byways" are signposted as Restricted Byway. Also on the map they're shown as a line of alternating T shapes. Instead of the usual +++++ of BOATs
