As the title suggests, i am now back from my jolly hols and need to sort out the disco from overheating, so a new radiator is going in, following on from my thread here..

overheating
Having looked around there seem to be a few variations, plastic verses metal etc.

Main thing i have latched onto is make sure that the plugs are brass and not plastic, but does it really matter that that the rest ie the top is plastic and not metal?

Just wondering if anyone has any other pointers/tips before i part with my hard earned cash on one and some new coolant?

Two i have found are:

ebay radiator

Which the seller says is a direct copy of the original radiator fitted, except in plastic and alloy

And

island 4x4 britpart

Cheers

I would recommend getting your old radiator re-cored. I took my rad and inter cooler out last year to clean them and found that in both cases the fins were very corroded and I looked around for ages trying to find replacements. Nearly all the new ones I could find were like the ones in your links I found that the "plastic" ones are a metal core with plastic side tanks bonded to them with glue and after a while they separate as the glue breaks down. If you get it re-cored they weld a new core to the original side tanks and pressure test it and fix any leaks and re-paint. It cost me around £100 for the radiator and about £75 for my intercooler and both came back good as new. Dunno what area you are in but I bet you have a radiator specialist in the yellow pages who can do the same.

Hope this helps.

a +1 on the champion from me, few folk on here have his rads, no complaints so far, know a few folk with them on non landys too, they seem fine.

Cheers guys, have ordered a champion radiator off ebay, as struggling to find someone to recore mine, esp in a quick timescale....and need it sorting sooner rather than later.

Oh, do i need to do anything 'special' for the oil cooler pipers that attach to the radiator, will these leak oil when i undo them and will it need topping up?

Cheers

Oh, and out of curiosity, what coolant do people use / buy from?

Is the 1998 build date you see on various coolants really that important, as mine is 1996
