Hi all, replacing my radio for android unit and need it to shut down when keys are removed, I’ve seen someone took power from cig lighter to do this.
Is this doable ? Do I just spare off the cig lighter and join it to the iso harness ?
Any help would be great
Thanks
Lee

There are two cig lighter sockets on mine. One is on all the time one comes on with the ignition so make sure you get the right one

Yea noticed that, it’s the one nearest the radio. So do you thing best to cut it out and use the power cable directly for my radio or joint a cable to it and have them both powered ?

I know very little about this sort of thing - but people talk about ISO (or summat) adaptors that you can get. I'd have a look around to see if there is a standard adaptor you can get that would make it simply plug in - might mean you don't have to start stripping out the console and cutting into looms.

A correct adaptor is the way forward. Cutting looms and using power feeds for cigarette lighters with incorrect fuse ratings for radios is a road to dash fires and downstream failures I would say.

I would get the correct adapter if it would work but looking at the cable coming to the radio before any adapter it has no switched power cable in the socket, it’s empty and previous radio had an off switch so I’m a bit stuck really

New android unit has off but standby only so screen is still live, I suppose standard fl2 radio relied on off button on the radio

Seems unusual that you would have to remember to turn the radio off each time you got out of car. Is that how it worked in an FL2???

Been looking for an adapter, Googled it and can’t find any solution that switches radio off, suppose there could be a canbus module that switches it off but can’t find one anywhere, I’ve got the basic fl2 2010 model with no external controls to worry about just need the switched power to the radio

The standard FL2 radio is controlled by the CAN signals. When the ignition is turned off, the CAN signals the HU to shut down, at the same time. You can't just install an after market HU in a modern CAN driven vehicle, without a lot of messing about, and some functionality loss.

Are you aware that using an aftermarket HU will cause the PDC to no longer work?

Hi, thanks for the useful info. I’ve had to change the radio as old one was faulty, I don’t have any other extras to worry about, no stalk radio control or parking sensors just need a radio that fully powers down and the way I can see of doing it is by powering from a switched power so the cig lighter socket seems the only solution, just wondered if anyone else had attempted it with success ?

Friend just suggested to add a 12v on off switch on the constant power feed which I can mount on dash, everyone think this is a good idea ?
