Replacement x-member extension size

i need to replace my rear cross member as it's shot. The worst bit is the chassis leading upto the cross member so I need extensions.

Does anyone know how long the extensions are? I don't want to buy 1/4 chassis (including suspension mounts) but my chassis is knackerd up the rubber axle stops

Speak to pressbrake or black sheep as he makes them he made mine with extra long chassis legs.

If it is that bad then I would consider a full chassis swap. Though +1, only seen good things about Pressbrake

From the rear suspension to the front is solid though. Minus small hole or two. Idea is for a chassis swop in the future but not enough time, space or money right now. Thought I'd patch it up for a year or 2.

Could always do a 1/4 chassis but they are way more expensive than a cross member with extensions.

I'll look at pressbrake. I've read good things On a few forums

How bad is the xmember? If it is MOT-able/safe could be worth keeping as is and saving up rather than spending more cash and doing it bit by bit.

The actual cross member is fine, it's just the chassis rail from the suspension to the cross member. Definitely not mot-able.

I'm fairly decent at fabrication and welding so that's not an issue. I was just hoping to chop the end off and replace it .

Not sure if the picture uploaded but everything to the left on me pointing is solid. Everything to the right is completely shot

Also the Land Rover is 90 v8 but was originally a diesel (1986) so a 90 4c but the rear cross member has the large hole for a trailer socket which I've just read is a td5 onwards thing.

Anyone heard of this holes fitted in pre td5 cross members?

Well I've got a 1996 90 and it doesn't have the hole, are you sure it hasn't had a cross member replacement already (TD5 one fitted). Must admit that does look a bit grotty, is it worth cutting it open a bit to have a better look inside as it could be worse than you think if it has been apart before?

If the x member is fine, why dont you just make some cardboard templates of the sides and cut your own rails from 4mm plate. the top and bottom could be 3mm and easily bent to the shape of the rail.

Looks to me you just need a standard one with extensions!

I cleaned up the entire chassis up until the rot, i used a flapper wheel and took it back to bare metal on that rear section and there is no sign of a new x-member being fitted in the past.

I'm trying to find out what models have the hole, i just read yesterday that it was TD5 onward , maybe an optional extra available. Still doesn't explain how it ended up on a 86 4c.

I thought about that, but the worst parts of were the chassis rail joins the cross member. Just thought id replace the entire thing and patch the few odd holes. I definitely am considering a a chassis swap in the future but i just cant right now. The car sits on a drive way and it wouldn't be possible.

Also, what sort of value increase would i see with a galvanised chassis, considering id be lightly restoring things as they went back on and the car inst worth loads anyway. I only paid £1300 this year for it and its an old car with a different engine.
