replacement starter motor

Does any 1 know what other starters i can fit to a 2A diesel, 1964?

I am havin trouble findin a replacement for my year landy. Mine is totally shot so rebuild probably a waste of time.

Am i right in thinking that a S3 starter will fit. If it does then from paddocks web site it looks like a Defender TD & 200/300 TDI will also fit, as they all have the same part number as the S3 one (according to Paddocks anyway).

As long as the bolt hole positions & the pinion will mesh with the ring gear I am happy as the wiring i can mod to suit.

dunt get one from a petrol landy they dunt fit diesels.

I seem to remember reading that the starter off of a 200tdi engine fits straight on and turns the engine over at a slightly higher rpm. The starter sounds smoother as well apparently.

Well if your engin is original it would have been fitted with a Lucas M45G
(2.25 Diesel Up to J reg)
Have a google around there are loads of referb kits and spare parts

Spot on it does have a Lucas M45G. Think i will take mine with me & look around for a newer type starter, off something like a def, Diesel though!!

Will let you all know what i find fits, just incase any one else wants to know.
