I have Series 3 (88) and in order to make the truck more trip-friendly I am thinking of removing the metal sheet that goes from left side to the right behind the seats.
Vertically it stands from the top of back rest to the boxes bellow the seats. So maybe it can be lowered to that point and install a metal tubing which could be removed when needed.

My questions are:
why is it there? Does it provide any structural support? Can it be removed without causing problems? Has anyone done this?

Any ideas or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

The bulkhead? The one the behind the fronr seats? It is structural, you can get bars designed to replace them, the bar is a 'u' shape so you wont have to remove it all the time, look on craddocks, I think they may only do them for 90 and 110's but they are a very close fit

thank you Ben for reply. After looking at the product description in the web site (not much description but just photos) in the web site I think it would be easier and cheaper to get a local metal shop build a curved thingy that fits the truck and can be taken down when needed.
My plan is to open as much space as possible to add folding bed in the back coming to the second and third front seats for traveling. So this support can only be removed when the truck is parked.
