I have a 2002 TD4, 3Door, LGV. Runs fantastic and I love it, but when I got it there was no plip. I got one off ebay and took it to http://grawallautos.co.uk/ as they're near to me, the plugged in their AutoLogic, went through the reprogram steps but it wouldn't work. I got a key with a programmer from remotekey.co.uk, plugged in the programmer, followed the instructions, still no joy.

Is it possible to replace the bit that the remote plips talk to or is their a way to diagnose what the issue is? The guys at Grawall said they could investigate, but at £65/hour, it'll soon add up.

Any advise appreciated

When these things go wrong, its a bit of a mine field - actually its a bit of a mine field even when they are working!

If 2 separate ways of programming a remote fail - then its safe to say there in something "broke" on the car. Without knowing why they wouldn't work it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the CCU (security) computer has gone wrong. It could be the IR pickup not reading the remotes properly - which may explain why the remotes went missing - ie they stopped working and got put in a "safe place" never to be found again!

I'm not sure what info you can get from the CCU using the different pieces of diagnostics kit - but would be worth doing some simple connection tasks to it - just to make sure the diag port connection is working OK.
 
Thanks for that. Is it worth getting something like a Lynx? it's getting on for £300, but it'd probably save on labour costs if diagnosis takes a while?
 
To taalk to the CCU you are probably looking at one of the 'top end' units - so the Lynx or Hawkeye probably.

I would wait for some responses from people who know more acurately, but I believe that with the Hawkeye you will be able to program the remote once you've diagnosed/fixed the problem - so yes, it will probably end up saving you money. I say the Hawkeye can because I'm sure that has been specifically discussed on here - I'm sure the Lynx will be as good. It may come down to whether you want a handheld unit or a Laptop based device.

As I say - probably worth waiting so you hopefully get some more knowledgeable responses.

also trying to think what info u can get , I've got a hawkeye and know it can reprogram keys and remotes but never done it

wonder if the small receiver unit that sits under the instrument panel has failed

when u use a key will the alarm and red light come on

can't remember but wonder if there is a single fuse that controls the alarm system
 
just thinking the Immobilser side must be working due to it starting , so the key and transponder must be synced

so in theory the alarm ecu is ok but the remote receiver unit box fitted under the instrument panel binical must have failed , not allowing the remote to receive any signal

may have unplugged the receiver unit as a fail safe and not allowing a remote to work ??

did u leave the remote key receiver unit in ur diagnostic socket for at least 30secs

does ur central locking work when using the key

Central locking and alarm are fine. Red light flashes away happily when I lock with the key. When they connected their AutoLogic, it went through the steps until the 'Press your plip button several times' and nothing showed up. He had a plip tester and it responded to the plip, so that side should have been okay, but on the car, nothing.... :-(

How hard is it to get hold of/change a receiver unit? If it's a straight forwards job, I'd have a go at swapping that out anyway..

It sounds like the radio receiver isn't picking up the remote. They have been known to fail.
It easy to change as it's mounted on top of the dash binnacle, under the cowling. It simply unplugs from the harness.
 
Okay, I've ordered a new receiver, so let's see how that goes. Will it need any coding to get it work, or it is literally plug and play?
