So, driver side key lock was not working. After i fixed it and was happy with being able to lock unlock the car manually from the handle, i found out the remote suddenly stopped working. Was working perfectly before and tried different keys. Central locking using the key at the handle and using the switch on the dash works fine. Checked supply at the roof module and it has 12v on both wires and even tried a spare module but it wouldn't work. Finally I tried to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and that did nothing either. What is happening????

1.Are you sure that the replacement receiver is 100% OK?.
2.Did you connect it well to earth?
3.The second fob you tried was working before on your vehicle?

1. No, i had never tried it to be honest
2. I clean the contacts, so i hope so. Also it has ground with the bolt.
3. Yes, second and third all worked well before

I know it looks like the receiver but what are the odds it chose the exact moment when i was fixing the latch issue to let go 😅😂

Seems so, unless you are unlucky enough to be a wiring issue... get a new one and get done with it for the next 20 years

i will try to fetch a 3rd one, im still not convinced about the timing, seems too strange in my mind that it happened to break after i was working on the central locking

A little update. Managed to source a new (britpart) module. It sort of works, as in it only works if the keys are within 1 foot of the module. Not sure if this is a feature of this britpart pos or i have bigger issues and the module is not getting enough juice. Tonight i will try an earth lead direct from battery, see if it helps

tried the direct earth and it did not make any difference, so im a bit at a loss, guess i will try to buy a new genuine one

If I was you I'd stop firing the parts gun at it and follow all the leads checking them for shorts, breaks corrosion etc. If it "sort" of works then I doubt another more expensive one would be any better.
@sierrafery knows far better than me all the circuit testing etc you need to know.

As long as the remote works just that the range is low IMO there's nothing wrong with the circuit... chasing contact issues while the receiver is not 100% ruled out is feckless...and 100% ruled out can be only with new genuine one...if with that one the problem persists then some troubleshooting is needed

so basically stuck a known good genuine one and it works perfectly now. no wonder they call them ****part... incidentally my next job is to replace the 6m old britpart bushes

Happy Holidays

My 2023 Range Rover is giving me an error message saying that the SMART KEY DEACTIVATED... What is this about??
