Hello,

What steps do I need to undertake to register a ex-mod Land Rover.
Getting confused by the DVLA website. Hard to figure out the order.
My wish is to do as little as possible as it only to drive it onto a ferry and
ship it out of England.

If it's been permanently exported you don't need to register it in this country.

I just want to know if the ferry/customs will be ok with me driving a un-registered car onto their boat. It's going on a trailer on the other side.

last one i sold the chap came from germany and came with his own registration plates off his own land rover back in germany swapped them with the english ones and drove it back, illegal but that was up to him

the last time i registered one you needed to mot the motor using the chassis number shown on your release papers(saves searching for it) then make an appointment with your local dvla, show them the release from services documents and mot, bung em a few quid and they sort your registration for you, this was about 3-4 yrs back mind,so things may have changed

it would be cheaper to get a recovery firm to collect it and deliver it to the port. why not look in yellowpages for one from the same town as the ferry port and ask them to do it as a back load when they are in the area. you may need to give them a wide range of collection dates though

Once it's on the quayside it's on private property (or at least not on the public road) so doesn't need tax etc. Same applies to boat. You might look into insurance though - perhaps you can insure it as freight.

We're looking into another problem - '56 S1 that's never been registered. On military plates until about 5 years ago, when it was taken off the books on condition it was sold for scrap. OK, it still IS in pieces, but one day it'll be back together, and then it won't be scrap...

i never ****in mentioned tax. i was referring to the registration of the vehicle ffs

yer just cant help some folk. why is it they come on here askiung questions and when they dunt like the ****in answer they contest it
I said tax ETC. You may assume the etc is the reg. Why not ask the ferry company then?

Now I got it fixed to get it delivered to the ferry. But the problem
is that I can't find an insurance company that will insure it based on
chassi number. Anyone know a company that does that?
Thanks for all the input.
