Hi,

I just bought a series 2 1959 land rover. The registration mark begins with the letter A and ends in the letter A, is this the original plate?. I did read somewhere that this is a re-issue, can anybody shed some light on this please.

That's a 1963 plate when they first started to put a letter at the end, the first A is just part of the reg, the A at the end is the age letter

On the log book it says first registration 1959

If this is a different plate can I:
1/ reclaim the original?
2/ does this still come under MOT exempt with this plate?

I think Ive found my answer after doing more searching. For anybody else who has this problem, these plates where issued to pre-1963 leading up to 1992
Apparently you can get rid of the A-suffix.

more info here to anybody that interested.

Is it an ex army one? Apparently when they were demobbed they were given civillian plates so that could account for the 4 year difference possibly?

If someone sold the plate then it would be given an 'A' reg because they have plenty spare couse it didn't run for a whole year
