My wife does not like to come out in my Series 1 soft top 1958 because it has lap belts. I have been looking online for a seat belt rail so I can fit reel type belts. I can only find them for series 2 onward. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Most S1 don’t have belts… MOT man can never find ours in the S1 ;).
Yes people do like a bit of safety but unsure how you would get the S2 brackets to fit.

have you got a link of what you have looked at?

I’m back home Saturday morning & will measure a 90/110rear & the S1 to see if there is a difference(I’m sure there is)

now are you good at welding?

Saw a replacement front hoop on a series one some years ago that had fittings for seat belt, don't know if home made or bought item though.
Try contacting Series One club.

you are probably better with the individuals rather than full bar on a series 1 as all of the bar are made for later model vehicle LINK. This way it is more likely to fit. use the lower mounting you arleady have for the plug and the bottom mount and then all you need to do is work out where to fit the inertia reel.

Be sure to bolt those to something that's sturdy, steel and bolted to something chassis shaped. Just bolting to sixty year old aluminium may be unwise.

They bolt to the capping which is steel. It is no different to the military roll bars which bolt to the tub capping. And is no worse than the top mount on a defender which bolts to the aluminum side panel:

Sure.

The light weight seat belt bar has an additional bracket that bolts to the chassis.
The late lwb series has a strap from the receiver latch stalk anchor to the chassis

The inertia reel, lower mount and seatbelt plug should all be on plates through to the chassis, this is the same for either a series or a defender, it is only the top mount that seems to be less substantially mounted. As it is a series 1 we are talking about it will probably need bespoke brackets making up but you may be able to modify the ones form a later model. See here for all of the seatbelt mounting parts: LINK (other suppliers available but nicely all in one place)

Here’re a couple of photographs of how i fitted inertia reel seatbelts in my Series 1.
With the the windscreen folded down, and a strap wrapped around the hoop stretched over the front of the vehicle, i could tow the vehicle. I’m confident the hoop is sturdy enough. I’m sure some people will disagree, but i’m satisfied, and an MoT tester was too, so I don’t care what naysayers think. The lower fixings are to substantial strips of angle iron and spreader plates sandwiched either side of the aluminium of the tub in front of the bulkhead (with suitable gaskets to prevent bi-metallic corrosion steel/alluminium).
