In the UK, thankfully.
Okay , here's one for the more experienced.Recently bought a 1978 Ser 3 petrol SWB. Before it gets stripped down and given a full resto' I would like to start the engine. Its been lying for 3 years. Engine turns nicely.Doesent fire and no petrol coming through to the lift pump bowl. When the battery is connected the red ignition light comes on. The green light also illuminates. I am not getting a spark accross the points. The red light stays on even when the ignition key is in the off position. Does anyone know if the attached photo is the correct set of points, they are Lucas DSB191C. Thanks.

you shouldn't get a spark across points, that is what condenser is for- long time since I pulled points out of anything, but some of the lucas **** could be incorrectly fitted to not go open circuit when points opened.

find a squirty bottle and fill carb manually-you may find pump will work when running and fuel forced through it-just watch it doesn't dump petrol in oil

Thanks Fan but I tried the petrol into carb trick last night. Nowt. When turning the engine with rotor arm off and distributer cap off (in the dark) the points opened but no spark accross them. Only a bright spark near the points like it was shorting onto the distributer body.Someone has been messing about with it before so points may be set wrongly?

the points closed and the coil is on, points open and the coil sparks.

put a new set of points and condenser in and see what happens.

points closed there should be a voltage across coil with ignition on

the points switch earth and there should be a constant ignition live to coil (unless positive earth)

Righty ho. The spare set of points look different to the ones fitted. Can anyone conirm the photo is the correct points?

If fuel isn't getting to the lift pump the filter on the end of the lift pipe in the tank could be clogged. The pump itself might be crudded up or faulty so eliminate that next.
There are two types of dizzy commonly found on the petrol lump, the Lucas 45D and the Ducellier. The lucas has the condensor in the dizzy cap and the Ducellier has it screwed to the vacuum advance. Those points should fit the lucas dizzy.

Yes, its a Lucas. Thanks Guys.

Your new points may look different from the ones that are in the dizzy - it looks like they were designed for a later dizzy but the Lucas website reckons they'll fit the earlier 45d
