Hi all ,
A bit of direction would be appreciated , am getting the red charging light remaining on when I start . However if I give the accelerator a hefty blip , it switches goes off , most certain it must be a poor earth , however wondered if the fact that the raising of the rev's sorting it points to a specific area I should look at first ? .
Cheers
Steve

Check fan belt is tight.
What level is your tickover , try just raising the revs slowly.
Charging light has battery voltage at one side and earths through alternator when engine not running once engine running the voltage should equalise and lamp goes out.

If your idle speed is low (<800rpm) then that is pretty normal behaviour. I've got my idle at around 650rpm and it needs a blip to go out and will often slowly come back on. I have a newer alternator with a bigger wheel.

The old idle speed was quite low but on newer motors (to combat NOx emissions I believe) the idle speed is set higher at 800rpm. Either get a smaller alternator wheel or raise idle speed a little.

If it is a series three clean the fuses. Mine will sometimes glow and also glow through the turn indicator green lights. Cleaning the fuses sorts it.

Thanks for the feedback - won't get a chance to have a look until the weekend , will certainly check fan belt , and check the connections at the light , through to alternator . However not so sure about the idle speed link , as it runs quite fast anyway , couldn't say at what exact speed - no rev counter , but it certainly sounds at least 800rpm , and when I say I give it a blip to get rid of the light , it's a real shove , and the light goes straight off ... no glowing or fading out .
Cheers Steve
