i'm sure this has been asked before and will be asked again but...the strongest front towing point? is it the two ring plates bolted onto chasis jsut below rear bumper? is there a better place without any mods, seen people putting shackles on bumpers? are these on standard bumpers
cheers boys

do you mean the lashing eye on the drivers side of the front bumper? if your not running a steering guard i suggest you get 2 jate rings which bolt directly (through existing holes) through the chassis. the same for the rear unless your runing a tow hitch.

ive got one of these: eBay.co.uk: LAND ROVER REAR RECOVERY RING 90 110 NEW (item 320073727441 end time 20-Mar-07 11:30:16 GMT)

which fits directly to the rear x member. just make sure yours is strong enough and not rusted to buggery.

standard bumpers are not designed to take the strain of recovery situations. i have seen tow hitches attached, but if you look behind the bumper you may find a simple 8mm steel plate or box section steel to act as reinforcement across the length of the bumper. thetow hitches/swivl shackels are attached through these.

Hope this helps.

Yours is a 110 isn't it? I think the tube is stock on the 110 - seen it on a few of 'em now ;)

Cheers,

ahh, interesting, i wonder why. i suppose with the longer wheelbase the back end will be high for longer on bumpy bits, not like a 90 which wud settle down sooner??? if u catch my driff....

I think it's something like that - although whether you're more likely to ground the steering on a 110 or not I don't really know. I'd have thought it was more the bot between the wheels that was most at risk, but I suppose the descent angle will be steeper on some slopes for a 110 than a 90.

that seems to make sense. i'm having a bad day on the common sense side of things, just look at the crap i was wrtiting when some guy asked about drooping in 2inch lift or droop fred

lol at driving mad... are you sure them bars are standard? there is no reason for a 110 to have added steering protection over a 90... unless their starting to pick favorites! approach and departure angles can affect a 110 enormously. what those bumpers and rear x members lads ;)

a 90 with 2" lift is what you want ;)
