My 90 has failed its MOT due to excessive corrosion (dirty great holes) in the rear crossmember and I've heard only good things about the HD rear crossmember from Clive at Black Sheep Offroad so I plan to give him a call tomorrow to discuss ordering one; however I'm undecided as to whether to order the part and have it fitted locally or if I should take time off work to drive to Essex to have the part fitted...

To help me decide either way, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced garage near Oxford who I could trust not to make a mess of my 90 or the new part?

Thank you,

Chris

Most mechanics welding skill is a bit doubtful so chose wisely

That's definitely my concern. If I wanted it done badly, I would do it myself!

I've heard great things about your work so my preference would be to come to you, but current work commitments make it difficult for me to take time off.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply. I will give you a call this morning to discuss in more detail.

Thank you,

Chris

If you want it done right by somebody that can not only weld but understands the foibles of the landy chassis then bunk off work for a day and get PB to do it. Until you cut the old one off it will be hard to see how far the rot has travelled and PB has the knowledge and the tools to fab any extra bits and pieces required. Get there early and remember to take some sarnies because its a good long days work. You wont regret making the effort. JMHO.

That's a very good point. I hadn't really thought about the rest of the chassis.

PB/Clive, if you're reading this, I left a voicemail on your mobile this morning. Please can you give me a call when you have time?

Just to follow up on this - As discussed, I have sent you an email to arrange dates etc. Please let me know if the email hasn't arrived, otherwise I will look forward to hearing from you with your available dates.

For anyone who is interested, I have decided to arrange for PB to fit the new crossmember so will post some before and after pics when it's done.
