Rebuilding door top

Hey all,

I am putting a new door top on my driver side and it has come without any holes for fixing the seals in.

The old door top and seals were so rusted that it is difficult to see where the screws went through the seals and into the frame. I have some good parts diagrams that I think I got through a link from this site but it doesn't go to the level of detail of showing where screws should go.

The screws that I have been able to see/remove seem to be screwed at an angle through the felt piece and into the frame at the outer edges. I'm thinking this is the thing to do because the screw will sit very near the right angle of the seal and so interfere less with the glass sliding all the way into the seal.

Anyone who's done this have a view on the best way of assembly? I'm thinking put the whole thing together with waterproof 3M glue/sealant that I have from refitting sunroof seals on my classic 911. Then really the fixing screws are just there for additional security in case the glue deteriorates over time (it's good stuff from 3M so I doubt it will anyway). I can drill the odd small hole and put in stainless screws. I think generally the fewer holes drilled the better since holes = water = rust...

They almost certainly don't have holes because my new 110 doors didn't. Just use common sense and drill and fix where you think best. On my 110 the countersunk screws squished easily into the felt glass runners and didn't interfere with the glass. Screws at an angle was maybe because of access issues or sloppy assembly.
QC wasn't always the best in Landy world.

I think you just nail a self tapper in now and then.

Did it last week, drill 3 or 4 per track, I did mine in the centre, and screw down hard, the heads end up below the glass. They only last a couple of years so you'll get another go soon enough!

I opened my pack of new felt channels this morning and there were 10 countersunk screws in there - hopefully stainless.

So I guess that's four on the longest channel and three on the other two.

Rebuild halted because my metal filler/spacer pieces are in poor shape so I'll need to get some more. I had put all I needed into the basket of one of the well known suppliers online but I then noticed that they wanted more than the value of the parts to deliver to N.Ireland. It really narks me off that suppliers change shipping costs from £5 for mainland Britain to £18 for N.Ireland even though Royal Mail charge exactly the same for every part of the UK.

Luckily there is a good Landy parts place not that far away. They're probably more expensive and I'll have to make a detour from usual work routes to go there so it could cost me the £13 difference or more but I feel the need to boycott said online supplier...
