I am putting a new door top on my driver side and it has come without any holes for fixing the seals in.
The old door top and seals were so rusted that it is difficult to see where the screws went through the seals and into the frame. I have some good parts diagrams that I think I got through a link from this site but it doesn't go to the level of detail of showing where screws should go.
The screws that I have been able to see/remove seem to be screwed at an angle through the felt piece and into the frame at the outer edges. I'm thinking this is the thing to do because the screw will sit very near the right angle of the seal and so interfere less with the glass sliding all the way into the seal.
Anyone who's done this have a view on the best way of assembly? I'm thinking put the whole thing together with waterproof 3M glue/sealant that I have from refitting sunroof seals on my classic 911. Then really the fixing screws are just there for additional security in case the glue deteriorates over time (it's good stuff from 3M so I doubt it will anyway). I can drill the odd small hole and put in stainless screws. I think generally the fewer holes drilled the better since holes = water = rust...
