hi all as this is my first s3 and i'm about to replace the rear x member has any one done this and has a good way of doing it?? taking the body off:confused: ?
and is it better to buy a 1/4 chassis with sus hanger from paddocks any help would be most gratful

thanks brad:cool:

Hold the tub up so its supported, undo all the bolts, make sure there are no wires in/on the chassis parts, and then get the new X-member to weld on.

Bolt it all back up to the tub, and weld it up. This way you can be sure its lined up properly or fit at the very least.

All you are doing is taking the chassis away from under it, get the tub well suported and keep it that way until you have welded the new X-member on.

Have the bolts done up before you weld it, this saves a lot of messing around.

Had to do mine this year for MOT and found it quite easy, used ratchet straps to carry weight of body then bolted the four body mounts back into place then slid the quarter chassis into place and hey presto.

Only thing was the bumpers on the corners were already welded and the mud flap bars were shot so am still minus these parts

Cut through from underneath packing the cuts open, much easier to do with 1/4 chassis though than just rear piece
