Rear Window Sticks when Opening and Closing

Just bought a '53' plate Freelander,
found that the rear window sticks when opening and closing.
Placing a hand/pressure on the glass helps it drop.
When closing, glass sticks on the top outer edge stopping it closing properly
and lipping uder the top plastic bar. Thumping the glass helps it into its
final close position.
I've heard the rear door glass tract is adjustable. Anyone have any tips how to do this?

Does the window drop half an inch when you open the back door? It should then go up when it closes. Make sure when the door is closed that the window is fully up i.e. the back window opens and closes like a side window worked by a button on the dash. If it's not fully closed then it wont sense that it needs to open that little bit therefore wont. Disconnect the battery and when you reconnect it the back window will drop anyway, close it off the button and if it still isn't right take the inner back door panelling off and have a look at the mountings. There are not many bolts holding it in and the operating wire is prone to corrosion (and snapping but you'll know when that happens as the window won't go down.)

With the back door open, can you hold the glass firmly at the top and pull it up and down about half an inch? If so, then you have wear in the regulator assembly giving "lost movement" to the glass. The amount the motor drives the glass is determined by counting the output of a pulse generator on the back of the motor which is fed into the Central Control Unit, which in turn drives the motor for a specific time which SHOULD equate to the distance required to move the glass behind the top seal (and down to clear this seal). Thus any lost motion in the window regulator would result in the glass not rising sufficiently to make a tight seal. You could try re-calibrating the window operation, which entails disconnecting the battery for a short while to reset the CCU. Make sure you have the radio code before you try this, though.
