Me driving with the tailgate window open down this morning attracted the attention of West Mercia's finest Traffic Officers this morning on the way into work - apparently they had never seen a car with the tailgate open and thought that the back glass may have been busted in - they ran my number thro the PNC and it would appear that the cherished plate that I transferred 3 weeks ago is still coming up as being registered to my old car so they pulled me over. I guess its good to see that they are taking an interest - or is it?? Im a bit miffed that DVLA having got their fingers out and sorted out my reg tho' - I did it in person at a DVLA office so they cant say that it was lost in the post!!
OH yeah, apparently they said I also aroused their suspicions because I was driving 'to the letter of the law!!' - learnt to drive like that when I had 9 points on my licence and never got out of the habit!!

I drove "to the letter of the law" in my Astra GTE once upon a time. I got pulled over for it too. Their excuse: People with these cars don't drive to the laws of the road.
Wasting my time !!

I hear what you are saying - like I said, I managed to acquire 9 points in one hit when I was a yoof (exceeding 100mph on the motorway) and managed to avoid a ban because I was so obsequious in court and because I took my Advanced Driving Test (voluntarily) - judge was so impressed that he applied for special mitigation that I might not be banned (worth knowing if anybody ever gets pulled and is looking at a ban for speeding or under totting up - they dont HAVE TO ban you!). It basically meant that I had to spend 3 years without getting nicked for ANYTHING so I learnt to drive like that and I still do in built up areas - its not the first time I have been pulled because of it either.

I guess I should be happy that their curiosity was pricked sufficiently to think that the glass may be out of the tailgate - its the attitude i cant stand - why do they always have to do this 'good cop, bad cop' routine. One being nice as pie and the other being, at best, aloof and at worst, downright rude - maybe I am turning into a miserable old codger (35!) but I really dont like being called 'son' by coppers - especially when they are so obviously younger than me! The one copper just took it as 'one of those things' but the other was insistent that it was my responsibilty to sort out the plate situation, can't see what else I can do as I have paid everything and filled out all the forms with DVLA.

isn't it funny how we all slag off the peelers for "not catching real criminals" and all that, and when they stop a you cos they thought the back window had been smashed and the car was stolen we still moan about them. realistically you should be greatful that they had the nouse about them to realise your window was down or missing(as they thought). give em a fair chance ffs they are only doing their job. ;)

Looks like the vibrations and rattles from yellas Disco have finally done for his eyesight - poor lamb - read the post chap

I was whingeing at

a) having to pay 100 quids to tranfer my plate and sit for 2 hours at the local DVLA centre to ensure that the paperwork went through properly only to find that it hasnt been registered correctly.

b) having to suffer the good cop / bad cop routine and the condescending manner of the police.

Sorry if it came across that I was slagging off the law - trust me, they do a lot lot worse things than calling me son but that sanother post for another forum ;-)

I believe that the police only update there records from the DVLA about every 6 week,

A friend had a similar problem with his disco he had jut bought, it was previously SORN, all the correct paperwork had been done just not updated to the police.
