Rear wheels spinning free of drive shaft?

Hi everyone, not sure if I'm being really dumb here but gears and diffs and stuff are still a bit of a mystery to me. Basically, I've got the rear wheels of my Series 3 jacked up, and they are able to spin freely with the handbrake on. The handbrake works fine, stopping the drive shaft turning, but the wheels can still spin freely even if the shaft isn't moving. This can't be right.

Am I missing something? Cheers.

duz one spin forwards and one backwards?

ikf both wheels are off the ground spinning one will make other rotate in other direction without turning prop ,try it with one rear wheel on the ground

Yeah that did the trick, obviously nothing wrong, I'm just being a bit simple...
